Bio: Virginia Shumate
Virginia is a rising second year student at the WVU College of Law. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Political and Economic Philosophy from Wheeling Jesuit University in May of 2006. She is the Secretary for the Class of 2010 and earned a Certificate of Excellence in Legal Writing in Spring of 2008. She interned at Sanders, Austin, Flanigan and Aboulhosn in Princeton, WV prior to attending law school. Virginia clerked this summer for the Honorable Judge Derek C. Swope in Princeton, WV.
About the program
Participating students had the opportunity to study international and comparative law in Brazil. Lectures and seminars were led by WVU law professors, with some lectures in Rio & Vitória from Brazilian professors. All lectures were in English. Students visited Brazilian legal institutions as well as held classes in Brazilian law schools. Seminars took place throughout the trip on various topics, including international environmental law in the Amazon at a jungle lodge.
